A16z adds to Hyperliquid stake with $131 million paper profit
Venture capital firm a16z continues to bet heavily on Hyperliquid. An entity linked to a16z has withdrawn a total of 224,118 HYPE tokens from major exchanges over the past 24 hours, worth approximately $15.16 million. The unrealised profit on the total position has now grown to around $131 million.
Hyperliquid is available at OKX and Bybit.
Large purchases from Bybit, OKX and Kraken
According to on-chain data from Arkham, a16z is collecting HYPE via several major crypto exchanges. For instance, 55,243 HYPE ($3.72 million) and 22,200 HYPE ($1.51 million) flow via Bybit to the a16z wallet. OKX delivers in two transactions 30,781 HYPE ($2.07 million) and 12,613 HYPE ($858.000) respectively. Kraken contributes with 4,330 HYPE ($291.000) and 3,620 HYPE ($243.000).
Wintermute also sends 14,038 HYPE worth nearly $950.000 to an a16z address. The movements occur while the Hyperliquid price stands at $61.50 today, a decline of 9.9% over the past 24 hours. That makes a16z’s purchases all the more striking: despite the red market, the firm continues to buy more.
Total position grows to $322 million
Since the start of 2026, a16z has been building an increasingly large position in HYPE. Total holdings have now grown to 6.906 million tokens, with a current value of approximately $322 million. The average purchase price is around $46.70 per token, meaning that a16z currently holds around $131 million in unrealised profit.
Interestingly, not everyone is so positive about HYPE. Earlier, Arthur Hayes warned of a market peak and sold his HYPE position. A16z is clearly taking the opposite course and appears to be betting on further growth of the Hyperliquid ecosystem in the long term.
