What is Cardano?
Cardano is a proof-of-stake blockchain founded in 2017 by Charles Hoskinson, one of Ethereum’s co-founders. It stands out for its research-led approach: upgrades are peer-reviewed and rolled out in carefully named phases rather than rushed to market. Its token, ADA, named after the mathematician Ada Lovelace, is used for staking, fees and governance.
The project sets out to be a third-generation blockchain, aiming to improve on Bitcoin and Ethereum with a focus on scalability, sustainability and academic rigour.
Following the live Cardano price
On this page you will find the live Cardano price in both US dollars and euros, with the context you need to read the market. The chart shows the last 7 days by default, and you can switch the view to 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or a full year. Tap a button and it redraws straight away.
That makes it simple to weigh recent action against the bigger picture before drawing conclusions.
Market data at a glance
Together with the live rate, the page collects:
- The day’s high and low.
- Market capitalisation in dollars (B for billion, M for million).
- Combined trading volume across the major exchanges.
- The amount of ADA in circulation.
- The all-time high, when it was reached and how far below it the price sits now.
- Where you can buy ADA.
- Links to the official website, whitepaper and social channels.
Convert ADA and see the real cost
The calculator instantly converts any amount of ADA into dollars or euros, and back again. Beside it sits an exchange fee calculator, so you can see what a trade actually costs once fees are counted and roughly how much ADA you would receive, rather than just the quoted figure.

Under historical data you can revisit past prices on any date, shown in dollars as the market standard, with the matching trading volume and market cap.
Cardano’s roadmap in prices
ADA’s chart tends to move alongside its development milestones:
- 2017: ADA lists at around 0.02 dollars after a multi-year token sale.
- early 2018: the first bull run lifts it past 1 dollar before a long decline.
- 2018 to 2020: years of consolidation below 0.10 dollars, with the Shelley upgrade decentralising the network in 2020.
- September 2021: the Alonzo upgrade finally brings smart contracts, helping push ADA to its all-time high near 3.10 dollars.
- 2022 to 2023: a broad bear market drags it back down.
- late 2024: a brief move back above 1 dollar during a wider rally.
Few projects tie their price story so closely to a published, step-by-step roadmap.
What moves the Cardano price?
The value of ADA reflects supply and demand, but Cardano’s pace of delivery plays an unusually large role. Milestones met or missed tend to set the tone. The main drivers:
Why the value climbs
- A major upgrade or new capability going live.
- Growing adoption of apps, staking or real-world projects.
- ETF or institutional interest.
- Positive crypto news and a risk-on market.
Why the value drops
- Delays to roadmap milestones, which critics watch closely.
- Competition pulling developers toward rival chains.
- Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
- A buy the rumour, sell the news reaction once an upgrade ships.
These are far from the only factors, but they explain most of the swings. For the reporting behind them, follow our latest Cardano news and our broader altcoin news.
