What is Dogecoin?
Dogecoin is the original memecoin. It launched in December 2013 as a lighthearted joke, built by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer around the popular Shiba Inu “Doge” meme, and started life as a fork of Litecoin. Despite those playful roots, it grew into one of the largest cryptocurrencies and still keeps a famously friendly, tipping-focused community.
Unlike Bitcoin, DOGE has no fixed supply cap, and new coins are added every year. That makes scarcity far less important to its value than attention and sentiment.
Following the live Dogecoin price
On this page you will find the live Dogecoin price in both US dollars and euros, with the context you need to read the market. The chart opens on the last 7 days by default, and you can switch to 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or a full year. Pick a period with the buttons and the chart updates on the spot.
It is an easy way to compare a short burst of action against the longer trend before you decide anything.

A meme that moved markets
DOGE spent years going almost nowhere, then exploded:
- 2013 to 2020: it trades for fractions of a cent with little real movement.
- January 2021: a wave of social-media buzz and Elon Musk tweets sends it up hundreds of percent.
- May 2021: DOGE hits an all-time high near 0.74 dollars, around the time of Musk’s Saturday Night Live appearance, then falls sharply.
- 2022 to 2023: a deep drawdown of more than 90 percent during the bear market.
- 2024 to 2025: partial recoveries in step with the broader market and fresh bursts of attention.
The lesson is hard to miss: DOGE runs on hype, and hype tends to fade as fast as it arrives.
What moves the Dogecoin price?
More than almost any other coin, the value of DOGE comes down to attention rather than fundamentals. With no supply cap to lean on, sentiment does most of the work. The main drivers:
Why the value climbs
- A viral moment or a high-profile endorsement, Elon Musk most of all.
- Broad risk-on sentiment lifting speculative assets.
- A new exchange listing or payment integration.
- Renewed retail interest and social-media momentum.
Why the value drops
- Fading attention once a hype cycle cools.
- Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
- Profit-taking after a sharp run.
- A buy the rumour, sell the news reaction to an awaited event.
These are not the only factors, but they cover most of the moves. For the stories behind each swing, follow our latest Dogecoin news and our memecoin news.
