What is XRP?

XRP is the digital asset behind Ripple, a payments-focused network built to move money across borders quickly and cheaply. Unlike coins that are mined into existence, the full supply of XRP was created at the start, and the company releases portions over time from escrow. Banks and payment providers are the intended users, which sets XRP apart from much of the market.

The XRP Ledger first went live in 2012. Its value has been shaped less by mining or block rewards and more by adoption deals and, for years, by a single high-profile court case.

Following the live XRP price

On this page you will find the live XRP price in both US dollars and euros, with the context you need to read the market. The chart opens on the last 7 days by default, and you can switch to 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or a full year. Choose a period with the buttons and the chart updates instantly.

It is an easy way to compare short-term swings against the longer trend before you decide anything.

Market data at a glance

Beside the live rate, the page brings together:

  • The intraday high and low.
  • Market capitalisation in dollars (B for billion, M for million).
  • Combined trading volume across the major exchanges.
  • The amount of XRP in circulation.
  • The all-time high, the date it was set and how far below it the price sits now.
  • Where you can buy XRP.
  • Links to the official website, whitepaper and social channels.

Convert XRP and see the real cost

The calculator turns any amount of XRP into dollars or euros in a moment, and it works in reverse too. Next to it sits an exchange fee calculator, so you can see what a trade really costs after fees and roughly how much XRP you would end up with, not just the headline rate.

Historical XRP data

Under historical data you can look back at past prices on any date, shown in dollars as the market standard, with the matching trading volume and market cap.

XRP and the long road through the courts

Few charts are as tied to regulation as this one:

  • 2018: an early bull run carries XRP to a record around 3.40 dollars.
  • December 2020: the US SEC sues Ripple, several exchanges remove the token and the price slides hard.
  • July 2023: a judge rules that XRP sold to the public on exchanges is not a security, and the price roughly doubles within days.
  • 2024: XRP trades mostly between 0.40 and 0.70 dollars before a late rally lifts it back above 3 dollars.
  • 2025: the case finally ends with Ripple paying a civil penalty, XRP sets a new all-time high near 3.65 dollars, and the first US spot ETFs arrive.

Few assets show so plainly how much legal clarity can matter to a price.

What moves the XRP price?

At its core the value of XRP comes down to supply and demand, but two extra factors weigh heavily: the scheduled escrow releases that add supply over time, and the steady drumbeat of regulatory and adoption news. The main drivers:

Why the value climbs

  • A new banking partnership or settlement corridor.
  • Regulatory clarity or a favourable ruling.
  • ETF inflows and institutional interest.
  • Positive crypto news and a risk-on market.
  • Lighter escrow releases or rising real-world use.

Why the value drops

  • An adverse legal or regulatory development.
  • Large escrow unlocks adding fresh supply.
  • A delisting or the loss of a key partner.
  • Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
  • A buy the rumour, sell the news reaction to a long-awaited event.

These are not the only factors, but they cover the moves you will see most often. For the reporting behind each shift, follow our latest Ripple news.
