What is Solana?
Solana is a high-speed blockchain known for very low fees and fast transactions, which has made it a favourite for NFTs, decentralised apps and especially memecoins. Its native token, SOL, pays network fees and can be staked to help secure the chain. A technology called Proof of History lets it order transactions efficiently and process them at high throughput.
Solana launched in 2020, created by Anatoly Yakovenko and his team, and quickly positioned itself as a faster, cheaper alternative to Ethereum.

On this page you will find the live Solana price in both US dollars and euros, with the context you need to read the market. The chart opens on the last 7 days by default, and you can switch to 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or a full year. Pick a period with the buttons and the chart updates on the spot.
It is a quick way to set the short-term moves against the longer trend before you decide anything.

Convert SOL and see the real cost
The calculator turns any amount of SOL into dollars or euros instantly, and it works in reverse too. Alongside it sits an exchange fee calculator, so you can see what a trade really costs once fees are taken into account and roughly how much SOL you would walk away with, not just the headline rate.
Historical Solana data
Under historical data you can look back at past SOL prices on any date, shown in dollars as the market standard, with the matching trading volume and market cap.
Solana’s wild ride
Few coins have swung as violently as SOL:
- 2020: Solana launches at around 0.22 dollars.
- 2021: an NFT and DeFi boom drives a run of roughly 12,000 percent to a record near 260 dollars in November.
- 2022: a brutal year of network outages, capped in November by the collapse of FTX, a major SOL backer, which sends the price toward 8 dollars, a drop of about 97 percent.
- 2023: a slow recovery, helped by signals such as Visa adding USDC settlement on Solana.
- 2025: a new all-time high near 295 dollars in January, followed later by spot Solana ETFs and another sharp pullback as the memecoin frenzy cooled.
This high-beta behaviour, big rallies and equally big crashes, is part of what defines SOL.
What moves the Solana price?
SOL tends to amplify the wider market, climbing faster in good times and falling harder in bad ones, partly because so much of its activity is speculative. A few forces stand out:
Why the value climbs
- Booming on-chain activity, especially memecoin trading and DeFi.
- ETF inflows and growing institutional interest.
- Network upgrades and rising developer adoption.
- Positive crypto news and a risk-on market.
Why the value drops
- A network outage or fresh reliability concerns.
- A cooling memecoin cycle and falling on-chain volume.
- Token unlocks adding supply to the market.
- Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
These are not the only drivers, but they cover the moves you will see most often. For the reporting behind each swing, follow our latest Solana news and our memecoin news.
