The selling pressure on altcoins has reached a new historic low. According to data from CryptoQuant, the cumulative buy/sell volume ratio for altcoins, excluding Bitcoin and Ethereum, has fallen to its lowest level in five years. A striking development that has analysts pondering what is currently happening in the altcoin market.

Selling pressure at lowest point in years

Analyst IT_Tech_PL reports via CryptoQuant that the cumulative buy/sell volume gap for altcoins already reached an extreme level in June, but has since fallen even further. The chart shows how selling pressure on centralised exchanges has increased sharply over the past few months relative to buying power for smaller altcoins.

What stands out in the data is the sharp downward movement starting around early 2026, which then accelerates significantly. While the Bitcoin price is currently hovering around $61K with a 1.8% rise in the past 24 hours, interest in altcoins appears to be declining further. The orange area in the chart indicates that buyers are clearly losing out to sellers on the major exchanges.

What does this mean for the altcoin market?

Such an extreme level in the sell/buy ratio could point in two directions. On the one hand, persistent selling pressure suggests little confidence in altcoins in the short term. Investors seem to be reducing or exiting their positions, putting pressure on the prices of smaller coins.

On the other hand, in the crypto world, extreme levels often signal a potential turning point. If nearly everyone who wanted to sell has already done so, even a small influx of new buyers could cause a significant upward price movement. Whether this scenario is now unfolding, however, cannot yet be said with certainty. The market for altcoins remains under pressure for now, concludes CryptoQuant.
