AMD reaches $1 trillion market value after 10% share price jump
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has crossed the $1 trillion market capitalisation threshold for the first time in its history. The stock rose almost 10% on Monday to a record price of $615.52, placing the chip company among the world’s most valuable listed companies. The advance is driven by rapidly growing demand for AI chips, with investors increasingly betting on AMD’s role in the AI market.
In brief:
- AMD rises almost 10% to a record price of $615.52, surpassing a market capitalisation of $1 trillion.
- The stock has already risen by about 185% in 2026.
- The gap with industry peer Nvidia has become considerably smaller: from around 40 times as large to about 5 times as large.
Record price on the back of AI demand
AMD’s share price reached a level of $615.52 on Monday for the first time, an increase of $55.70, or almost 10%, compared with the previous closing price. Its market capitalisation thereby shot above the $1 trillion threshold for the first time.
Investors increasingly expect AMD to play a major role in the world of AI computing power. That confidence translates into a share price rise of around 185% in 2026 so far, making the stock one of the best-performing technology shares of the year.
Gap with Nvidia has narrowed considerably
A year ago, Nvidia’s market capitalisation was still about 40 times larger than AMD’s. That difference has now shrunk to about 5 times. Although Nvidia remains the dominant player in the AI chip market, AMD’s share price performance shows that investors are taking the company increasingly seriously as a competitor.
After closing at $615.52, the stock rose further in after-hours trading to $619.79. The question is whether AMD can maintain this momentum as competition in the AI chip market continues to increase.
