Arthur Hayes leads Flop Labs with fair launch and airdrop
Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, has announced that he is coming out of retirement to lead Flop Labs. The project introduces the FLOP token as a means of payment within the AI agent economy, without a pre-sale or venture capital. A major airdrop is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the genesis block in the first quarter of 2027.
In brief:
- Arthur Hayes is taking the lead at Flop Labs and introducing the FLOP token for AI agents.
- The project launches without a pre-sale or VC participation, entirely through a fair launch.
- An airdrop is planned for Q4 2026, with the genesis block following in Q1 2027.
FLOP as a means of payment for AI agents
The Flop Network is built for the emerging economy of AI agents. The FLOP token serves as a means of payment that allows agents to gain access to computing power and other network services. Miners receive FLOP as a reward for executing AI requests, while validators monitor the reliability of the network and are also rewarded for doing so.
Agents can stake FLOP to store their own memory via a decentralised system, and the token can be used for payments between agents themselves. The network thus focuses on what Hayes calls the “agentic economy”.
No pre-sale, major airdrop expected
Hayes states that FLOP is being launched without a pre-sale and without any allocation to venture capital funds. The project opts for a fully fair launch, in which all participants have equal opportunities.
According to Wu Blockchain, the project expects a large-scale airdrop in the fourth quarter of 2026. The genesis block, the starting point of its own blockchain, follows in the first quarter of 2027. Further details about the project will be announced at a later date.
