Aztec Network hacker funnels 300 Ethereum via Tornado Cash

The person who attacked the Aztec Network in June 2026 continues to actively cover their tracks. On August 8, the hacker sent another 300 Ethereum, worth approximately $572.100, to Tornado Cash. This brings the total amount funneled through the mixing service to 500 ETH.

Three transactions in a matter of hours

Security firm PeckShield is tracking the hacker’s movements and reports that the 300 ETH entered the mixer in three separate transactions of 100 ETH each. This happened within a few hours, between midnight and shortly after 02:00 UTC. The transactions are visible on the blockchain and all originate from the same address previously linked to the attack on the Aztec Network.

Tornado Cash is a well-known service that anonymises crypto transactions by mixing coins with those of other users. Criminals regularly use the tool to make stolen crypto harder to trace. The US government previously placed Tornado Cash on a sanctions list, but that has not deterred malicious actors from continuing to use the service.

More than two million dollars stolen in attack

The Aztec Network is a so-called privacy rollup on Ethereum that processes transactions confidentially through a private bridge. In June 2026, an attacker managed to exploit a vulnerability in the protocol and steal approximately $2,165 million in cryptocurrency. This makes it one of the more notable DeFi attacks of the year.

At the time of writing, Ethereum stands at $1.916,51, up 0.4% in the past 24 hours. The 500 ETH the hacker has now moved via Tornado Cash therefore represents a value of nearly one million dollars. It is unclear whether more transactions will follow. After all, the attacker still has a significant portion of the loot left, based on the original damage of more than $2.1 million.
