Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $189 million in new inflows on 18 August, according to WuBlockchain, citing data from SoSoValue. Meanwhile, Hashdex is closing its DEFI spot Bitcoin ETF after problems with assets under management, trading volume and operating costs. Ethereum ETFs are also performing well: $71.5 million flowed in, most of it via BlackRock.

Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.

In brief:

  • Spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $189 million in daily inflows on 18 August
  • The Hashdex DEFI spot Bitcoin ETF is shutting down and will be delisted from NYSE Arca
  • Spot Ethereum ETFs attracted $71.5 million, with BlackRock’s ETHA accounting for $64.7 million

Significant inflows despite price below $65.000

The $189 million inflow into spot Bitcoin ETFs on 18 August follows the previous day, when Bitcoin ETFs attracted $298 million. The Bitcoin price currently stands at $64.200, a slight increase of 0.1% in the past 24 hours.

The sustained inflows show that institutional investors remain active despite Bitcoin’s sideways price movement. Total assets under management in spot Bitcoin ETFs stand at $79.3 billion, according to SoSoValue.

Hashdex DEFI ETF shuts down after trading day on NYSE Arca

Hashdex is liquidating its DEFI spot Bitcoin ETF. The fund faced a combination of factors: too little assets under management, insufficient trading volume and operating costs that were too high to remain profitable.

The ETF ceased trading on NYSE Arca on 17 August and will subsequently be fully delisted from the exchange. It is one of the smaller Bitcoin ETF products that could not compete with the major players in the market.

BlackRock dominates Ethereum ETF inflows

Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded total inflows of $71.5 million on the same day. BlackRock’s ETHA ETF was by far the largest contributor, with $64.7 million in inflows, accounting for more than 90% of the total.

The strong performance of Ethereum ETFs fits into a broader trend in which institutional interest in digital assets is broadening beyond Bitcoin alone. Earlier, we reported that Jane Street disclosed more than $1 billion in Bitcoin ETF positions, illustrating the growing institutional involvement in this market.
