American spot Bitcoin ETFs are experiencing a historically poor period. According to research by Galaxy Research, the net outflow over the past 30 days amounts to $6.35 billion, making this the largest 30-day outflow ever. Galaxy Research tracks a total of 582 rolling 30-day periods, and none come close to the current outflow.

Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.

Institutional investors retreat

The figures show that institutional players are withdrawing money from Bitcoin ETFs on a large scale. This trend has been visible for some time: earlier this week, the Bitcoin ETFs already reported an outflow of $90 million in a single day, and as recently reported, Bitcoin ETFs are experiencing their worst year ever in 2026, with 67,681 BTC already sold.

The chart published by Galaxy Research clearly shows how the inflows, which were strong in earlier periods, are now giving way to substantial red bars. The current outflow far exceeds all previously recorded periods, indicating that the confidence of large investors in Bitcoin ETF products is currently under pressure.

Bitcoin price holds up despite selling pressure

Remarkably, the Bitcoin price is holding up relatively well amid all this selling pressure. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is at $63K, a slight increase of 0.8% over the past 24 hours. That suggests that other market participants are absorbing the selling pressure from institutional ETF investors.

Nevertheless, the situation remains worrying for the broader market. Long-term holders remain calm for now during the correction, but the record outflow from ETFs makes it clear that there are large players reducing their positions. Whether this is a temporary phenomenon or the start of a longer outflow period remains to be seen.
