Bitcoin falls below the $63.000 mark on the first day of August. The drop of approximately 3% in 24 hours is linked to reports of an imminent attack by the US and Israel on Iran’s energy infrastructure. Ethereum, XRP and most major altcoins are following the downward move.

Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.

In brief:

  • Bitcoin drops to $63.000 following reports of a possible attack on Iranian power plants and oil refineries.
  • In the US, the crypto market awaits a vote on the CLARITY Act, while Circle receives a banking licence in New York.
  • PUMP is the exception on a red day, with a rise of around 6%.

Geopolitical tension weighs on Bitcoin price

The Bitcoin price stands at $63.000 at the time of writing, a decline of 1.2% over the past 24 hours. Analyst MikybullCrypto points to reports that the US and Israel are preparing a large-scale attack on Iranian power plants and oil refineries. The operation could take place as early as this weekend, with the aim of completing it before financial markets open on Monday.

The uncertainty surrounding this geopolitical conflict is directly reflected in the crypto market. Alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP are also falling, along with virtually all other major coins. Investors appear to be avoiding risk as tensions in the Middle East escalate. Earlier this week, more Bitcoin was already set in motion by long-term holders, pointing to increased market activity.

Regulation and exceptions on a red day

Not everything is doom and gloom. In the US, Senate leaders are still working to get a vote on the CLARITY Act onto the agenda before the August recess, although the exact timing is uncertain. The law is intended to provide greater clarity on the regulation of digital assets in the US.

Stablecoin issuer Circle is meanwhile notching up a regulatory victory by receiving a so-called trust charter from the state of New York. It is the second major approval for the company in the past three weeks, further strengthening Circle’s position in the US market.

The only real winner of the day is PUMP, a token within the Solana ecosystem, which is up around 6% and thus stands out in an otherwise predominantly red market.
