Bitcoin reached $85.152 on Monday morning, its highest level since January. The Bitcoin price rose by more than 5% in 24 hours, breaking through a technical level that analysts had long regarded as crucial. Ethereum is also benefiting, climbing above $2.750.

Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.

In brief:

  • Bitcoin reaches $85.152, its highest point since January
  • The price rises by more than 5% in 24 hours and breaks through an important moving average
  • Analysts see the breakout as a possible signal that the bear market is coming to an end

Breakout above the 365-day average

The rise coincides with a breakout above the 365-day moving average, which stood around $83.000. That level is seen by many technical analysts as a dividing line between a bear market and a resumption of an upward trend.

Ki Young Ju, founder of the on-chain analysis platform CryptoQuant, points to the significance of this level. According to him, it is now up to momentum traders and institutional parties to step in if the price holds this level.

The breakout above $83.000 was already remarkable, but the further rise towards $85.000 accelerated sentiment further. Earlier this month the price was still fluctuating around $80.000, with analysts still taking a possible pullback into account.

Bitcoin breaks through to $85.152

The advance comes after Bitcoin had already returned above $81.000 earlier this week. That recovery followed news about exemptions from the CFTC and SEC. Since then the price has built up steadily, with an acceleration towards the current level.

It is also notable that Bitcoin OTC reserves fell to a historic low in the past period, which may indicate increased demand outside the regular exchanges. Lower availability through OTC channels is usually accompanied by upward pressure on the price.

Whether the price manages to hold the $83.000 to $85.000 level will, according to analysts, determine whether a broader influx of buyers gets under way.
