Bitcoin climbs to $86.000 as a combination of geopolitical easing, regulatory exemptions and strong inflows into Bitcoin ETFs drives the market. At the same time, Meta dominates the app stores with its AI agent MUSE, and AMD breaks through the trillion-dollar market capitalisation threshold. The Fed, however, tempers the optimism with a warning about possible earlier-than-expected interest rate hikes.

In brief:

  • Trump halts air strikes on the Houthis ahead of possible talks with Iran, causing the oil price to fall by 3.32% to $95.99 per barrel.
  • Bitcoin rises to $86.000, partly driven by $433 million in net inflows into Bitcoin ETFs on 18 September.
  • Meta’s AI agent MUSE tops the US iOS App Store and drives Meta’s share price up 11.4%.

Oil price falls on ceasefire and trade agreement

President Trump has halted air strikes on the Houthis ahead of possible peace talks with Iran during the UN General Assembly. Saudi Aramco managed to redirect its oil exports within a week, causing the Brent crude price to fall by 3.32% to $95.99 per barrel.

There is also movement on the trade front. The US and China are working on extending their trade truce by three to six months. The two countries are jointly drawing up lists of goods that will be mutually exempted from tariffs and have set up a formal consultation channel for AI, including a system for incident reporting.

Fed officials Goolsbee and Mussalem temper the optimism. They warn that persistently strong demand could push inflation up through the supply side, which could make earlier-than-expected interest rate hikes necessary.

Bitcoin benefits from ETF inflows and regulatory easing

Bitcoin is trading around $86.000, an increase of more than 4% in the past 24 hours. Ethereum stands at $2.771. We previously wrote about how exemptions from the CFTC and SEC had already pushed Bitcoin towards $81.000.

Inflows into Bitcoin ETFs remain robust. On 18 September, a net $433 million in new capital flowed into spot products, reflecting institutional demand. Earlier, Bitcoin ETFs already recorded $621 million in inflows in a single day.

Meta’s AI agent MUSE surpasses early ChatGPT figures

In the tech world, Meta is attracting all the attention with MUSE, an AI agent that tops the free app ranking in the US App Store. According to SoSoValue, the app even surpasses ChatGPT’s early download figures. Meta’s share price rose 11.4% in response to the news.

AMD simultaneously breaks through the trillion-dollar market capitalisation threshold, driven by strong performance from its CPU division. Attention is thus shifting from a hardware shortage to the question of which platforms actually generate returns from AI applications. Meta Connect 2026 and the possible IPO of Anthropic are seen as the next milestones for investors who want to know whether those returns will also be delivered. We previously reported on billions flowing back from AI into crypto, a trend that could strengthen further as a result of these developments.
