Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong: My Posts Are Not Investment Advice
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong responds to the uproar surrounding his personal X account. After controversy over changes to his profile picture and criticism that the Base community receives insufficient support, Armstrong draws a clear line: his posts are not investment advice nor signals for specific coins or projects.
Coinbase CEO Armstrong writes that sometimes he does not even know whether a coin or project is linked to the content he shares. Followers who use his account as a source of alpha do so at their own risk and against his wishes.
Posts and profile pictures are not endorsements
Armstrong writes that he uses his personal X account to share things he finds interesting or funny. Nothing more. He therefore calls on his followers not to follow his account for investment tips or signals about individual coins. His posts, profile pictures and memes do not constitute an endorsement of or commitment to any project.
He also dismisses the criticism that Coinbase and Base do not want to support certain tokens. Some tokens simply cannot be listed on the platform due to compliance and regulatory reasons. Promoting specific coins or accumulating certain tokens is something he and Base director Jesse Pollak do not intend to do.
What Base does for builders
Armstrong explains where Coinbase and Base do place their focus. The team organises physical Base Batches and provides grants to promising builders. Coinbase Ventures and the Base Ecosystem Fund invest in the most promising companies building on Base. In addition, Coinbase periodically integrates promising Base DeFi protocols into its own products, which provides additional reach and distribution.
He admits that he might mention something on X if he finds it interesting, but even then, this is not investment advice. The principle remains to support projects that create long-term value for users. Armstrong closes his message with a wink: memes may continue to appear on his timeline, but they also do not count as an investment signal.
