Empery Digital sells 1,400 Bitcoin for $87.1 million
Nasdaq-listed company Empery Digital is selling 1,400 Bitcoin for a total of approximately $87.1 million. The funds will be used for multiple purposes: repaying debts, financing a real estate purchase, and covering legal costs. The sale takes place as the company increasingly shifts its strategy towards AI infrastructure.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
Sale of Bitcoin for Multiple Purposes
Empery Digital announced in an SEC filing that the company has been selling a total of 1,400 Bitcoin since 7 May 2026 at an average price of $62.200 per coin. By comparison, the Bitcoin price currently stands at $64.000, an increase of 2.1% in the past 24 hours.
With the proceeds, the company will repay a $10 million debt on 7 July 2026. In addition, Empery is reserving part of the funds for the previously announced real estate purchase, which will take place once the purchase agreement is finalised. A third portion goes towards the significantly increased legal costs surrounding a shareholder lawsuit, which the company details in its first quarter 2026 quarterly report.
As of 10 July 2026, Empery Digital still holds 1,514 Bitcoin and has approximately $73.9 million in liquid assets. The credit facility still has $45 million outstanding.
Strategic Shift Towards AI and Energy
The Bitcoin sale fits into a broader strategic shift at Empery Digital. The company is increasingly focusing on AI infrastructure and is participating in a proposed $1 billion AI data centre project, together with members of the Hunt and Crow families.
As a result of this new focus, Empery is also ceasing the publication of public net asset value updates that are based solely on Bitcoin holdings. The company states that this no longer provides a complete picture of its activities, as its exposure to AI and energy infrastructure grows. With this, the company marks a clear departure from its earlier identity as a pure Bitcoin treasury company.
