Ethena and Coinbase announce partnership, ENA bought on open market
Ethena and Coinbase are collaborating to expand onchain financial products and savings solutions for Coinbase’s massive user base. Ethena announced this itself via X. The partnership targets more than 100 million users, with the first concrete initiative already scheduled for next week. Moreover, Coinbase Ventures is making its first investment in Ethena by purchasing ENA tokens on the open market.
Broad reach via Coinbase users
The partnership between Ethena and Coinbase aims to make onchain finance more accessible to a broad audience. Coinbase has over 100 million users globally, making this a potentially highly impactful collaboration. The two parties intend to jointly offer savings and financial products that run entirely on the blockchain.
Exactly when which products will become available is not yet fully clear. What is certain is that the first growth step will begin next week. Coinbase has been actively expanding its services worldwide recently, for example, it recently launched direct INR deposits and withdrawals in India.
Coinbase Ventures invests in Ethena for the first time
In addition to the product-level collaboration, Coinbase Ventures is also taking a financial step. Coinbase’s investment arm is purchasing ENA tokens for the first time, and it is doing so on the open market rather than through a private round or deal. That is noteworthy because it indicates that Coinbase Ventures has confidence in the project at the current market price.
Ethena is a protocol that runs on Ethereum and focuses on synthetic dollars and yield opportunities through collateralised positions. The combination of a strategic partnership and a direct market investment makes this announcement particularly striking in the crypto world.
