Ethereum Glamsterdam upgrade scheduled for Sepolia on 6 October
Ethereum developers have provisionally scheduled the Glamsterdam upgrade for activation on the Sepolia testnet on 6 October at 13:53 UTC. However, the upgrade has not yet been successfully activated on a stable devnet, meaning the date remains subject to change. A mainnet date has not yet been set.
Ethereum is available at OKX and Bybit.
In brief:
- The Glamsterdam upgrade is provisionally scheduled for 6 October on the Sepolia testnet.
- Devnet-9 is failing to finalise and serious bugs have already been found earlier, so Devnet-10 is being prepared.
- A mainnet launch is still targeted for December, but no fixed date has been set.
Devnet-9 fails, Devnet-10 in preparation
The minutes of the ACDC #186 meeting show that progress on Glamsterdam is proving more difficult than hoped. Devnet-9 is currently failing to finalise. Earlier testing also revealed a serious bug in the consensus layer, as well as a problem in the execution layer related to EIP-8037.
As a result, developers are preparing Devnet-10. However, Christine D. Kim reports that attention has now shifted to Glam-Devnet-11, which is expected next Monday.
Sepolia date remains provisional
The scheduled activation date of 6 October for the Sepolia testnet is therefore explicitly provisional. If Devnet-10 or Devnet-11 proves unstable or throws up major new problems, the Sepolia activation may be postponed. Dates for the Hoodi testnet and mainnet have not yet been set.
Developers are still aiming for a possible mainnet launch in December, but that depends entirely on how the upcoming testnet phases go. Ethereum is currently at $2.500, virtually unchanged from the past 24 hours.
