A new Ethereum proposal aims to build privacy transfers directly into the protocol itself. EIP-8182, submitted by developer Tom Lehman, has been officially nominated for inclusion in the upcoming Hegotá hard fork. The proposal is now in a crucial phase requiring approval from core developers via the All Core Developers (ACD) meetings.

Ethereum is available at OKX and Bybit.

What exactly does EIP-8182 entail?

The proposal introduces optional privacy transfers on the Ethereum L1 protocol as a native mechanism. A notable aspect of the design is that there are no protocol fees attached. Users can execute transactions without the details being publicly visible on the blockchain, without relying on external solutions or separate networks.

Tom Lehman announced the PFI status on X, meaning the proposal formally qualifies for discussion and possible inclusion in Hegotá’s upgrade schedule. More technical details about the proposal can be found on the official EIP page.

EIP-8182 is not alone in the Hegotá upgrade

Alongside EIP-8182, several other proposals have been added to the Hegotá PFI list. These include, among others, EIP-7851 for code-controlled EOA delegation, EIP-7979 for new opcodes in the EVM, and EIP-8173 for improvements to the EVM control flow. EIP-8237, focused on independent synchronisation between the consensus and execution layers, is also part of the nominations.

The Ethereum community is closely following the developments around Hegotá. The Ethereum price is currently at $1.6K, a slight decline of 0.4% in the past 24 hours. Earlier this week, Ethereum open interest on Binance reached an all-time high, reflecting the sustained interest in the network.
