The share of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, is under pressure. Following the announcement of a substantial increase in the investment budget for AI infrastructure, the GOOGL stock price has fallen 7.9% over the past seven days to $317.69. Investors are reacting with concern to the massive spending, while concrete AI revenues have yet to materialise.

Capital Expenditure Raised to $205 Billion

Google has raised its full-year capital expenditure guidance to as much as $205 billion. This is a significant increase from previous forecasts and signals how seriously the company is taking the race for AI dominance. The investments are focused on data centres, chips and other infrastructure needed to run and scale large AI models.

For the market, this is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, Google shows decisiveness in the AI contest; on the other, investors are wondering when these immense outlays will translate into actual profit. That uncertainty is directly reflected in selling pressure on the stock.

Tokenised Share Closely Follows Traditional Price

Notable in the CoinGecko chart is that the tokenised version of the GOOGL share moves almost simultaneously with the traditional stock market price. Both lines decline strongly in sync from July 23, demonstrating how closely tokenised assets now track the underlying value of traditional shares.

The price decline began at the end of the week of July 21. After a brief peak towards $350, the stock has steadily fallen and hit a low of around $315 on July 24, before recovering slightly to $317.69 at the close of trading on the NASDAQ. Whether this is a temporary dip or the start of a longer correction depends heavily on how investors interpret Google’s upcoming quarterly results.
