HTX Halts WLFI Trading After Freezing User Tokens

Crypto platform HTX withdraws from the WLFI dispute by suspending trading services related to WLFI. This comes after the team behind WLFI, the crypto project supported by the Trump family among others, froze tokens owned by HTX users. WLFI implemented this measure citing screenings for UK sanctions.

A freeze without clear explanation

According to HTX, the platform did not receive a clear explanation of the legal basis, scope, or procedure for lifting the freeze. The company points out that the addresses in question are not subject to sanctions and are not owned by HTX itself, but by private users who lawfully purchased their WLFI tokens.

HTX has formally requested WLFI to lift the freeze and restore users’ access to their funds. Furthermore, steps were taken to provide additional protection to users: the exchange converted all USD1 balances to USDT and also suspended USD1 deposits and withdrawals.

What does this mean for user ownership

The situation raises a fundamental question: do users truly control their digital assets, or can a project arbitrarily revoke access to these funds at any time? According to HTX, user ownership is central to blockchain. No project should block legitimate user funds without transparent procedures and clear justification.

HTX states that other platforms in the industry are cooperating to help affected users and lift unnecessary restrictions. WLFI, however, would have acted against its own holders and supporters. The tokens of the involved users remain available online and are not lost, HTX reports. Withdrawals will resume once the freeze is lifted.

User protection first

According to HTX, user protection comes above all else. The platform warns that what affects WLFI holders today could affect anyone tomorrow. Therefore, HTX will take all available measures to protect its users and keep the community informed.

Such incidents underscore the importance of users choosing platforms that safeguard their funds. Many investors are therefore looking at different options on available crypto platforms.
