Hyperliquid HYPE vs Lighter LIT: Who Wins the Battle?
Many people think that Hyperliquid and Lighter are competing for the same position in the world of decentralised trading. Crypto analyst @AltCryptoGems sees it differently. According to them, each platform focuses on a different part of the market, and that makes the comparison between HYPE and LIT much more interesting than it seems at first glance.
Hyperliquid currently stands at $58.65 with a market capitalisation of $14.86 billion. Lighter’s token LIT is trading at $1.54 with a market capitalisation of $385.92 million. Both tokens are therefore in a very different segment in terms of size.
HYPE is available on OKX and Bybit.
Hyperliquid is building an entire ecosystem
Hyperliquid’s biggest advantage is its enormous liquidity, which in turn attracts more traders. But that is not all. Hyperliquid has its own network settlement via HyperEVM, a growing DeFi ecosystem and so-called Builder Markets. Recently, Circle already moved $4.4 billion in USDC to Coinbase via HyperEVM, illustrating the growing relevance of the network.
Hyperliquid is therefore no longer a regular DEX, but a full platform for decentralised financial products. The total trading volume on the platform now amounts to $4.36 trillion, with 1.2 million users and total deposits of $372.19 billion. That makes HYPE stronger in terms of utility: the token serves as gas, for governance, staking, validator security and use within the HyperEVM ecosystem. You can read more about the platform in our Hyperliquid review.
Lighter chooses a different approach
Lighter consciously positions itself as a trader-first platform, without the ambitions of a broad ecosystem. The platform offers zero maker fees, zero taker fees, settlement on the Ethereum network and funding rebates of up to 15%. All operations, including matching and liquidations, are cryptographically proven and publicly verified via Ethereum. The system processes tens of thousands of orders per second with millisecond latency.
LIT as a token also offers governance, staking, trading advantages, fee discounts, funding rebates and LLP access. Where the token does differ from HYPE: there is no validator security function, no gas usage and no HyperEVM integration. The price of LIT has been 36.62% lower than its peak since launch, while HYPE shows an increase of 1.732,66% over the entire period. @AltCryptoGems states that HYPE has more utility on paper, but that both tokens are impressive in their own way.
