The Japanese logistics company AZ COM Maruwa, also known as a delivery partner for Amazon, is switching to stablecoin payments. The company will use the yen-pegged stablecoin JPYC to pay out over 2,300 partner companies and independent truck drivers. This is expected to be the first large-scale corporate deployment of JPYC in Japan.

First large-scale corporate deployment of JPYC in Japan

JPYC is issued by the fintech company of the same name based in Tokyo. AZ COM Maruwa chose this specific coin because it is pegged to the Japanese yen, keeping its value stable. This makes it attractive for payments in daily operations, such as distributing commissions and fees to external carriers.

In addition to using the stablecoin, AZ COM Maruwa is also forming a formal business partnership with JPYC’s issuer. The logistics company is investing as much as 1 billion yen in JPYC, according to Nikkei. That is a substantial commitment, indicating that the company is serious about integrating digital currency into its payment infrastructure.

Stablecoins gain ground outside the financial sector

AZ COM Maruwa’s move shows that stablecoins are increasingly finding their way beyond the traditional financial world. Where digital currencies were previously used mainly for investments or trading on crypto exchanges, this company is now deploying them for ordinary business-to-business transactions.

Japan has been exploring digital financial innovations for some time. For example, the country is opening the door to Bitcoin ETFs through financial reforms. The large-scale deployment of JPYC by a logistics concern like AZ COM Maruwa fits into that broader shift toward digital payment solutions in the country. It is a concrete sign that Japanese companies are increasingly using blockchain-based technology for practical applications rather than purely speculative purposes.
