Major outage hits ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok simultaneously

Several major AI assistants suffered serious outages simultaneously on Thursday. ChatGPT from OpenAI, Claude from Anthropic, Google Gemini and Grok from xAI were down at almost the same time, causing disruption for users worldwide. None of the companies involved has confirmed a common cause.

Outages hit all major AI platforms at once

Users of the four platforms reported a range of problems: frozen conversations, slow or absent responses, error messages and unexpected download requests. The issues affected services from four different companies, which made the outage notably widespread.

OpenAI reported elevated error rates for both ChatGPT and Codex, its platform for developers. Anthropic confirmed that problems persisted with Opus 4.8 and Opus 5, two of its most advanced models. According to Coin Bureau, SpaceXAI also confirmed disruptions to Grok, based on reporting from Bloomberg.

No common cause found

Notably, the outages occurred almost simultaneously across competing services running on entirely separate infrastructure. Yet none of the companies has identified a shared cause.

Whether this is a coincidence, an attack on shared network infrastructure or another factor remains unclear. The companies made no statements about a possible connection between the outages.
