Memecoin KOL Murad Holds On While Portfolio Declines 83.5%
Murad, former co-founder of Adaptive Capital and one of the most prominent voices in the memecoin world, is selling nothing. Despite a loss of no less than 83.5% from his peak, he is holding his entire portfolio. His on-chain wealth peaked at $67 million in July last year, but now stands at around $11 million.
According to data from Arkham Intelligence, Murad currently holds a portfolio worth $11.348.621, His largest position is SPX, with nearly 30 million tokens held, worth $10.99 million. He also holds 70 million GIGA tokens ($186.970), followed by POPCAT ($26.820), a position in Bitcoin (the memecoin, not the cryptocurrency) worth $26.750. and MOG worth $22.390,
No sales despite huge loss
Two years ago, Murad shared a public list of memecoins he was tracking. To date, he has not sold a single position from that list, according to on-chain data. That is striking, as most of the tokens in his portfolio are deep in the red. RETARDIO is down 10.33%, BULL 9.69%, and MOG 2.95% on the day the data was compiled.
In the memecoin news community, Murad is known as a staunch supporter of the strategy of holding memecoins for the long term, also referred to as “conviction holding”. His reasoning is that memecoins are ultimately rewarded when the market picks up again. Whether that strategy pays off in the long run is a question that preoccupies many in the crypto sector.
What do the numbers say about his approach?
The current portfolio value of $11.3 million still sounds impressive, but the road back to the peak is long. To make up for his loss of $56 million, his positions would need to rise by an average of more than 600%. That is not an impossible task in the volatile memecoin market, but it requires patience and a strong stomach.
Notably, large Bitcoin investors are also active in the market. For example, large Bitcoin investors reach a new all-time high in holdings, indicating that confidence in crypto as a whole is certainly not gone. Whether Murad will ultimately be proven right with his strategy remains to be seen.
