Michael Saylor, chairman of Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), has published a new framework that divides the Bitcoin community into four distinct camps. The framework describes four major Bitcoin ideologies and warns against extremism on either end of the spectrum. With the current Bitcoin price hovering around $60K, Saylor examines how these different approaches can grow together.

Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.

Four Bitcoin ideologies

Saylor distinguishes the Maximalists, who see Bitcoin as the dominant monetary network. Next are the Capitalists, focused on integrating Bitcoin into global financial systems. The third group, the Technologists, are committed to protocol improvements and innovation. Finally, he advocates for the Fundamentalists, who emphasise self-custody, decentralisation and immutability.

Each of these four camps brings unique benefits to the ecosystem. Maximalists provide strong conviction, Capitalists promote widespread adoption, Technologists drive progress, and Fundamentalists safeguard the core values. Saylor points out that no single group is entirely right, but that all are needed for healthy growth.

Balancing growth and preservation

Saylor’s core message is that Bitcoin’s future depends on finding a balance between conviction, adoption, innovation and preservation. He calls for what he terms “disciplined expansion”, whereby the network’s base layer remains largely unchanged while other aspects evolve.

This stance comes at a time when the Bitcoin community is intensely debating protocol changes and the network’s purpose. As Bitcoin has recently come under pressure and short-term holders are capitulating, Saylor holds firm to a vision where different approaches can flourish simultaneously. In his view, this balance is essential for the network’s long-term stability and acceptance.
