Michaël van de Poppe: Bitcoin can fall to $74.000 or rise to $82.600
Bitcoin is at a major crossroads, according to analyst Michaël van de Poppe. After a rebound towards the recent highs, Trump-related news caused a downward move. Van de Poppe outlines two possible scenarios for the coming days: a further dip towards $74.000 or a breakout to $82.600. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $79.900, up 3.4% over the past 24 hours.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
In short:
- Bitcoin dipped briefly after Trump news, but is recovering towards the recent highs.
- Van de Poppe sees two scenarios: a dip to $74.000 or a rally to $82.600.
- He warns that altcoins could fall sharply if Bitcoin drops further.
Trump news triggers brief dip
According to Van de Poppe, Bitcoin has followed a classic pattern over the past few days: testing the lows, followed by a recovery towards the highs. That move was interrupted by news surrounding Trump, which led to a brief downward move.
Earlier, Bitcoin already met resistance around $79.300 after a sharp rebound. The current situation appears to build on that, with the price moving near that level again.
Two scenarios for the coming week
Van de Poppe describes his first scenario as a further decline in which Bitcoin tests the recent lows around $76.400. If that level holds, he expects a new rally towards $79.500 and possibly $82.600 within this week. If $76.400 does not hold, he is aiming for $74.000 as an entry level for long positions.
In the second scenario, Bitcoin holds its current price and directly attacks the recent highs. That would, in his view, usher in a new upward move for altcoins.
Warning for altcoin investors
Van de Poppe also specifically addresses investors in altcoins. If Bitcoin falls back, altcoins could decline much more sharply, with deep downward wicks, after which they quickly climb back up. More than half of the altcoins on Binance are now above the 200-day average, which increases the sensitivity to a correction.
He therefore advises investors to take profits in a timely manner rather than waiting for the top. Which scenario ultimately unfolds, according to him, depends primarily on how Bitcoin reacts to the support level around $76.400.
