Michaël van de Poppe Sees Two Opportunities for Bitcoin Around $72K
Bitcoin is trading around $72K on 20 August 2026, up more than 5% in the past 24 hours. Analyst Michaël van de Poppe sees the market becoming more active and shares two concrete levels he is watching for short-term positions. According to him, the overall market direction remains upward, although he is factoring in a broader correction if an important support level does not hold.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
In short:
- Bitcoin rises more than 5% in 24 hours to around $72K
- Van de Poppe sees an entry opportunity between $70.3K and $70.8K
- If it breaks below $68K, he expects a broad market correction
Van de Poppe sees opportunity between $70.300 and $70.800
Michaël van de Poppe indicates that on a pullback to the zone between $70.3K and $70.8K he wants to go long, with the aim of a quick upward move towards the recent price highs. The chart shows that Bitcoin earlier on 20 August rallied strongly from around $65.000 to above $72K, with a peak around $72.5K.
The chart shows support levels around $71K and $70.4K, corresponding to the zones Van de Poppe identifies for potential entries.
Correction below $68.000 as second scenario
If the first zone does not hold, Van de Poppe expects a broader correction. In that case, he is looking at price levels below $68K for a second entry opportunity. On the chart, a green zone is visible around that level, indicating a potential support zone.
Despite this second scenario, Van de Poppe remains positive about the market. He also expects altcoins to offer more movement and sees the current conditions as favourable for active trading.
