Move to Earn app Step App closes its doors after four years
Step App, the move to earn application that combines fitness and blockchain, is shutting down for good. After four years, the team announces its closure and asks users to unstake their tokens and close positions before 21 August.
In short:
- Step App will close all services on 21 August 2026 after four years of activity.
- The app had more than 1 million downloads and recorded billions of steps.
- Governance token FITFI once reached an all-time high of $0.73, but exchanges Upbit and Bithumb had already delisted the token earlier in July.
End of a move to earn platform
Step App focused on the move to earn market, where users were rewarded for physical activity via blockchain. The app was downloaded more than a million times and recorded billions of steps. The platform also collaborated with parties from both Web2 and Web3, which according to the team advanced the entire M2E sector.
In a message to the community, the team says the decision was not taken lightly. ‘There’s no easy way to say this,’ writes Step App, thanking users for their loyalty through market fluctuations. Like the recently discontinued blockchain game studio Proof of Play, Step App also finds itself forced to end its operations.
FITFI token and delistings
Step App’s governance token, FITFI, has had a turbulent history. The token was offered during the IDO at $0.0049 and reached approximately $0.73 at its peak. That represented a maximum increase of around 150 times the issue price. Little remains of those price levels now.
As early as 16 July, the South Korean exchanges Upbit and Bithumb announced that they would remove FITFI from their platforms. That was an early sign that the platform was heading in the wrong direction. Those who still hold tokens are now asked to unstake them and close any positions on exchanges before 21 August.
Deadline for users approaching quickly
All Step App services will be discontinued no later than 21 August. The team is calling on users to take action: staked tokens must be unstaked and open positions on exchanges must be closed before that date. Anyone who does not do this in time risks losing access to their tokens.
It is striking how quickly the tide can turn in the crypto sector. Platforms that show enormous growth during a bull run sometimes face insurmountable challenges in a declining market. Step App is not the first project to have to pull the plug after a successful start.
