OKX launches Shield in Europe with up to €500.000 protection
OKX has today launched Shield in Europe, a new security programme that protects users against account hacks. The system combines advanced security measures with a reimbursement programme that can pay users up to €100.000, or up to €500.000 for VIP customers.
In brief:
- OKX Shield offers protection via passkeys, facial verification and checks on large withdrawals
- Regular users receive up to €100.000 in coverage, VIP 1-3 up to €250.000, VIP 4+ up to €500.000
- The programme is free and requires no separate payment
How Shield works
The system first asks users to scan their account security. They must then activate several security measures: create a passkey, set up facial verification for large withdrawals, block web withdrawals and set P2P verification to ‘Always’. After activation, users receive an active status with a visible protected amount.
If a third party nevertheless takes control of the account, users can file a claim for damages. If approved, they receive up to the insured amount back, depending on their VIP level.
Free protection at no extra cost
An important distinction is that Shield requires no separate payment. Other crypto platforms offer comparable protection only for a fee, while OKX makes it available free of charge to all paying customers in Europe.
The programme addresses one of the biggest barriers for new users: fear of security risks. By showing which security measures are active and what level of protection applies, OKX seeks to build trust among users who are hesitant to open an account.
Terms and availability
Shield is available exclusively to European customers who have been verified via KYC and have a VIP level of 1 to 6. OKX stresses that this is not insurance or a guarantee, but a specified protection programme for recognised account takeovers.
The launch in Europe follows increasing attention to security risks in the crypto world. With Shield, OKX seeks to indicate that security is not only an individual responsibility, but something that platforms must actively work on.
