Oman launches mandatory national Bitcoin mining pool
Oman is making a striking move in the crypto world: the country is launching a mandatory national Bitcoin mining pool that all licensed miners must join. This makes Oman one of the first countries in the world to place Bitcoin mining so directly under state supervision.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
Omanhash: one mandatory pool for all miners
Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, together with local blockchain and Web3 company Frontier Technologies, is launching the national mining pool Omanhash.com. All companies with a crypto mining licence in the sultanate are required to join this pool. There is no alternative: Omanhash is the only official pool for licensed miners.
In the initial phase, Oman expects to aggregate around 10 EH/s of hashrate via Omanhash. That is a significant amount of computing power, showing the country is serious about its position in the global Bitcoin mining market. At the same time, Bitcoin miners worldwide have been under pressure for months due to high production costs, making the timing of this government initiative all the more interesting. Hundreds of millions invested in mining infrastructure
Oman has been investing heavily in digital infrastructure for some time. Since 2022, the country has poured more than $700 million into mining and data centres. Those investments are now laying a solid foundation for a coordinated national approach to Bitcoin mining under direct government control.
With this initiative, Oman is following a growing trend in which governments no longer ignore or oppose crypto mining, but actively seek to regulate it and benefit from its economic advantages. While other countries are still debating how to handle crypto mining, Oman is opting for a centralised, mandatory structure. The Bitcoin price currently stands at $62.996. up 0.6% in the last 24 hours.
