Ravencoin network hit by critical vulnerability and chain split
The Ravencoin network is being hit by a serious vulnerability that is already being actively exploited. Vulnerable nodes accepted invalid blocks, compromising the integrity of the chain. Exchanges are being urgently advised to temporarily suspend RVN deposits and withdrawals.
Ravencoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
In brief:
- A critical vulnerability in the Ravencoin network caused vulnerable nodes to accept invalid blocks, first seen at block height 4,487,776.
- The two largest mining pools, 2Miners and RavenMiner, are now building an alternative chain that excludes the affected branch, which could lead to a reorganisation of roughly three days’ worth of transactions.
- Exchanges are advised to temporarily pause RVN transactions and treat all confirmations after block 4,487,775 as uncertain.
How the attack unfolded
On 7 August 2026 at 15:44 UTC, the first invalid block appeared at height 4,487,776 on the Ravencoin network. Because of a vulnerability in the consensus mechanism, certain nodes still accepted this block as valid. Once the flaw had been demonstrated on the mainnet, others also began producing invalid blocks.
Project Raven is announcing the news itself through a public network notice and states that the information is intended purely for transparency and risk awareness. The announcement should not be viewed as support for a rollback, a specific chain preference, or a recovery plan.
Mining pools refuse compromise
The two mining pools that together control a majority of the network’s hash power, 2Miners and RavenMiner, are now mining on a chain that excludes the affected branch from block height 4,487,776. If this chain gains the upper hand, the network could undergo a reorganisation in which transactions from the past three days are reversed.
Behind the scenes, the pools were asked whether they would use a more recent recovery point to limit the impact on users, services and exchanges. That request was rejected. Transactions confirmed after block 4,487,775 are currently considered at risk. It is possible that some of those transactions will return to the mempool and be processed again, but that is by no means certain.
What users and exchanges should do now
Exchanges are advised to temporarily pause RVN deposits and withdrawals until the network situation is stable. Platforms should not assume that reversed transactions will automatically reappear or still be confirmed.
Regular users would also be well advised not to regard recent confirmations as final while the network has not yet stabilised. It is unclear when the situation will be fully under control and how extensive the eventual damage to on-chain transactions will be.
