Nick Tomaino, founder of crypto investment fund 1confirmation, shares his vision on the future of crypto. According to him, the era of speculative tokens is over and a new wave of consumer adoption is taking over, driven by tokens linked to real-world assets.

The end of the pump and dump era

Tomaino argues that the power of crypto has always been in global accessibility. That is also why Bitcoin, Ethereum and other major coins have grown to what they are now. Coins that enable new behaviours and are built on a deeper belief than pure profit do not simply disappear.

What does disappear is the culture of speculative tokens without value. Now that the cost of creating a token is nearly zero, you pump a token up only to see it crash to zero. Tomaino sees this as a positive development for the influx of new users. The market is becoming cleaner and more serious.

Real world assets as a driver for broad adoption

What remains, according to Tomaino, is a large wave of consumer adoption, driven by tokens backed by real assets. Stablecoins are already leading the way, but he expects tokenised stocks, commodities, government bonds, corporate bonds and real estate to accelerate significantly in the coming year.

Personally, Tomaino sees the most potential in real-world collectibles, such as sports cards and football shirts on the blockchain. That market is still relatively nascent, which he says offers the greatest opportunities for both building and investing. These are assets with their own real value and a large audience already interested in them.

The broader RWA market is growing rapidly and attracting increasing attention from institutional parties. Whether this movement will actually reach the masses remains to be seen in the coming months.
