When Bitcoin loses ground, the share of tokenised real-world assets in the on-chain perpetuals market increases. This pattern is visible in new data from CryptoRank and Artemis. The figures suggest that traders use RWA perpetuals as an alternative trading segment during periods when the broader crypto market is less active. Bitcoin currently stands at $75.700, a decline of 0.8% over the past 24 hours.

In brief:

  • The share of RWAs in total on-chain perpetuals volume rises when Bitcoin weakens.
  • The pattern points to a growing dependence of RWA trading on general crypto market conditions.
  • The data covers the period from March to September 2026 and comes from CryptoRank and Artemis.

RWA share rises as Bitcoin falls

The chart shared by CryptoRank shows a clear inverse relationship between the Bitcoin price and the share of RWA perpetuals in total on-chain trading volume. Around May 2026, the RWA share peaked at nearly 45%, while Bitcoin was trading around its highest levels at that time. In June, the RWA share then fell sharply back below 10%, at the same time as a correction in the Bitcoin price.

In August, the RWA share rose sharply again, to around 45%, while Bitcoin traded lower in the same period. This pattern repeated itself several times during the measured period.

Traders use RWA as a fallback option

According to CryptoRank, this points to growing use of RWA perpetuals as an alternative segment at times when the crypto market has less momentum. Traders therefore do not appear to leave the market entirely when Bitcoin weakens, but partly shift to tokenised assets.

The finding also shows how strongly RWA trading activity still depends on general market conditions within crypto. An independent demand for RWA perpetuals, separate from sentiment around Bitcoin, is not yet clearly visible in the data. Whether this pattern continues further depends partly on how the Bitcoin price develops in the coming weeks.
