Stablecoin inflow exchanges drops to lowest level in 2026
The inflow of stablecoins to crypto exchanges is currently at its lowest level in recent times. Analyst Darkfost points to a clear weakening of demand for Bitcoin, while the price today stands at $64K, a drop of 2.3% in the past 24 hours.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
Stablecoin inflow at historic low level
Since the beginning of 2025, the inflow of stablecoins such as USDT and USDC to exchanges has shown a declining trend. The monthly inflow is now averaging $2.3 billion, while the annual average stands at $3.7 billion. These are remarkably low figures compared to earlier periods.
By comparison, around Bitcoin’s all-time high, the average monthly inflow was $5.6 billion, with an annual average of $4.3 billion. The difference is significant and shows how much purchasing power has left the market. Darkfost states that this is a clear signal of weak demand and a lack of interest among investors.
What do stablecoin flows say about the market?
Stablecoin inflows to exchanges are often seen as an indicator of buying willingness. When investors send stablecoins to an exchange, that money is ready to be deployed for purchasing crypto. A low inflow thus indicates that little fresh capital is entering the market, which limits the chance of a strong price increase.
However, Darkfost adds an important caveat to this analysis. Peaks in stablecoin inflows are often a late signal, not an early one. At the time when inflows are highest, some investors are taking profits, while new entrants still believe the price will only go up. Therefore, it is not the case that a low inflow automatically means a recovery is absent. This also aligns with recent observations about Bitcoin holders sending coins to exchanges, which also points to profit-taking on the part of long-term investors.
For now, the conclusion is clear: demand must improve before there can be a structurally stronger market sentiment. As long as stablecoin inflows remain at this level, caution is warranted.
