Strategy CEO defends Bitcoin sale and renewed purchases
Strategy CEO Phong Le defends the company’s Bitcoin trading strategy. The company sold earlier Bitcoin positions in the $60.000 to $65.000 range, but this choice was not based solely on the price. Now Strategy is buying back heavily while Bitcoin trades around $79.650.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
In brief:
- Strategy sold Bitcoin between $60.000 and $65.000, and is now buying back at higher levels
- The company used the proceeds to strengthen its balance sheet and pay down debt
- Strategy says both strategies were correct for their specific moment
Balance Sheet Strengthening and Recapitalisation
The earlier Bitcoin sales were part of a broader financial plan. Strategy used the proceeds to strengthen its balance sheet and bring net debt to zero. This left the company better positioned to re-enter the market later.
With its improved financial position, Strategy was then able to issue shares at a premium and use those proceeds directly for new Bitcoin purchases. This is a classic refloating strategy in which a company first reduces debt and then raises new capital on more favourable terms.
Tactical Timing Rather Than Price Predictions
Phong Le says both the earlier Bitcoin sale and the current purchases were strategically right for their respective moments. This suggests that Strategy is not trying to time the market on the basis of price forecasts, but rather to capitalise on financial opportunities.
Strategy is one of the most active companies in Bitcoin accumulation. The current purchases come as Bitcoin has dropped back to levels around $79.000 after a volatile period.
What This Means for Institutional Adoption
Strategy’s approach illustrates how companies treat Bitcoin as a strategic asset rather than a short-term trade. By combining balance sheet strengthening and recapitalisation with Bitcoin accumulation, the company shows that institutional investors are integrating Bitcoin into broader financial planning.
This fits into a larger pattern in which traditional financial players take Bitcoin seriously as a diversification tool and a store of value.
