Strategy has again sold part of its Bitcoin holdings between 3 and 9 August 2026. A total of 1,690 Bitcoin changed hands for $108.6 million, at an average selling price of $64K per coin. The proceeds will go entirely towards the repurchase of its own STRC shares. At the same time, the company is also selling a substantial block of MSTR shares to strengthen its dollar reserve.

Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.

In short:

  • Strategy sells 1,690 Bitcoin for $108.6 million and uses the proceeds to repurchase STRC shares.
  • In addition to the Bitcoin sale, 6.59 million MSTR shares are also being sold for $653.1 million to boost the dollar reserve.
  • After the sale, Strategy still holds 840,447 Bitcoin, purchased at an average of $75.385 each.

Sale financed through Bitcoin and shares

Strategy announced the transaction in an official document filed with the US securities regulator. That announcement shows that the Bitcoin sale takes place under the so-called Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program, through which the company buys back its own STRC shares. The average selling price of $64.262 is therefore close to the current Bitcoin price of $64.030, which is down 1.7% today.

In addition to the Bitcoin sale, Strategy is also divesting 6.59 million MSTR shares for a total of $653.1 million. Of this, $650 million will go to the dollar reserve, which will thereby reach $4.65 billion. The company is thus pursuing a two-pronged strategy: scaling back Bitcoin and deploying share capital to strengthen its financial position.

840,447 Bitcoin held at an average of $75.385

After the latest sale, Strategy still holds 840,447 Bitcoin. The total purchase amount for all those coins comes to $63.36 billion, which translates to an average purchase price of $75.385 per Bitcoin. The current market value of the holdings is therefore below the average purchase price, given that the price currently stands at around $64.000.

It is not the first time that Strategy has sold Bitcoin to finance other activities. The company, formerly known as MicroStrategy, built up one of the world’s largest Bitcoin reserves over the past few years, but is now scaling it back to create shareholder value through buyback programmes.
