Telegram founder Pavel Durov announces that the platform will carry out the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet ever this summer. More than a billion users will gain access to direct, free crypto transactions via a native Gram wallet integrated into every Telegram app.

What exactly is a non-custodial wallet?

With a non-custodial wallet, the user manages the private keys themselves, unlike a custodial wallet where a third party such as an exchange manages the keys. This gives users full control over their crypto without relying on a central party.

The Gram wallet will be built natively into the Telegram app, meaning users do not need to download a separate application. Durov reports on his Telegram channel that this will be the largest rollout of a non-custodial wallet in the history of crypto, aiming to make crypto payments accessible to everyone who uses Telegram.

Instant and without transaction fees

One of the most striking features of the announced wallet is that transactions are instant and completely free of charge. This is a clear step to make crypto payments more attractive for daily use, where high transaction fees and slow confirmation times traditionally pose major barriers.

With more than a billion active users on the Telegram platform, this integration could have a massive impact on crypto adoption worldwide. The Gram token is affiliated with the TON network, which works closely with Telegram. Durov has not yet announced whether or how the wallet will also support other cryptocurrencies. The exact release date within the summer of 2026 has not been communicated for now.
