Trump bought Coinbase and Strategy shares, sold miners
President Donald Trump bought shares in Coinbase and Strategy in July, while at the same time selling positions in two Bitcoin miners. That emerges from a periodic transaction report published by the US Office of Government Ethics . The White House says the portfolio is managed entirely by external financial institutions and that Trump himself has no influence over the investment decisions.
In brief:
- Trump bought shares in Coinbase and Strategy in July for amounts of up to $100.000
- He sold shares in Bitcoin miners CleanSpark and MARA Holdings
- The White House states that the portfolio is managed independently
Purchases in Coinbase and Strategy
The report shows that on 24 July, Coinbase shares were bought worth between $1.001 and $15.000. On the same day, shares in Strategy were also acquired within the same range. Three days later, on 27 July, a second purchase of Strategy shares followed, this time for an amount between $50.001 and $100.000.
Strategy, the former software company MicroStrategy, is known for its extensive Bitcoin strategy and ranks as one of the largest institutional holders of the digital currency. Coinbase is the largest listed crypto exchange in the United States.
Sale of Bitcoin miners
The purchases are offset by sales. On 8 July, Strategy shares worth between $1.001 and $15.000 were disposed of. On 29 July, the portfolio sold shares in both CleanSpark and MARA Holdings, each for an amount between $15.001 and $50.000. Both companies are active in Bitcoin mining.
The White House stresses that neither Trump nor his family has any say over the timing or content of transactions. According to the White House, the portfolio is managed entirely independently by external financial institutions, without any input from the president or his close associates.
