X launches trading option via Cashtags with Coinbase and Kraken
X launches the Cashtag Partner Program in the United States, through which users are directed straight from a Cashtag to a participating broker or exchange to place an order. Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase are taking part at launch. The feature connects financial conversations on the platform with the ability to trade directly, without transactions being executed within X itself.
In brief:
- X introduces a ‘Trade’ button in Cashtags for stocks, ETFs and crypto
- Users are redirected to a participating broker or exchange to complete the transaction
- Launch partners are Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase
From market conversation to trading platform
Cashtags are clickable ticker symbols on X for stocks, ETFs and cryptocurrencies. They have long directed users to price charts and related posts on the platform. With the new Cashtag Partner Program, X is adding a ‘Trade’ button.
When a user taps on a supported Cashtag, they see the price chart and related posts. Via the Trade option, they are then redirected to one of the participating parties, where they can log in or create an account and complete the transaction. X does not process the orders itself: everything runs through the partners’ apps or web platforms.
Announcement from New York
The announcement dates from 15 September 2026 and for now applies only to the US market. X positions the programme as a way to shorten the step from information to action: users who follow a ticker and take part in the discussion can now trade without detours.
The choice of partners such as Coinbase and Kraken makes clear that crypto is a fully fledged part of the new feature, alongside traditional securities and ETFs. How quickly the programme will be expanded with more partners or to other markets has not yet been announced.
