ZachXBT Helped with $600.000 Theft, Victim Refuses to Pay

Crypto researcher ZachXBT shares a striking story about a case in which he himself became the victim of non-payers. He helped a user who was robbed of more than $600.000, managed to freeze nearly $97.000, but has not received his agreed fee to this day.

Five hours of detective work for nothing

In June 2026, the user known as Roshi, also called Zatoshi, was drained of more than $600.000 via multiple wallets. Immediately after the theft, he contacted ZachXBT and offered to pay ZachXBT’s full fee if he could help. ZachXBT then spent more than five hours tracing the transactions.

The detective work yielded results. In total, ZachXBT managed to freeze $96.000 at two different services. But then the collaboration broke down. Roshi indicated that he did not want to file a report with the Danish police because he had not paid tax on his crypto holdings. That made further legal steps difficult or impossible.

Weeks of silence and a threat

ZachXBT is asking for a fee of $5.000 for his work. Roshi has not responded to messages for weeks. The shared private messages show that ZachXBT said he would publicly raise the matter if he received no response, which he ultimately did.

The incident shows that even well-known researchers in the crypto space risk being left without payment after intensive work. ZachXBT says this is not the only time he has been left empty-handed after helping victims.
