What is Aptos?
Aptos is a high-performance layer-1 blockchain built by Aptos Labs, founded by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, two former Meta engineers who worked on the company’s abandoned Diem project. Like Sui, it uses the Move programming language, paired with a parallel execution engine that lets it process many transactions at once. Its token, APT, pays fees, secures the network through staking and is used for governance.
Aptos launched in October 2022 with heavy venture backing and has since pursued enterprise partnerships with names such as Google Cloud and Mastercard.

Aptos’s price story
- October 2022: APT lists around 7 dollars and quickly jumps before pulling back.
- January 2023: a rally on partnership news and altcoin momentum lifts APT to its all-time high near 20 dollars.
- 2023 to 2025: a long consolidation, as scheduled token unlocks add supply and capital rotates to rival layer-1s.
- 2026: APT trades around a dollar, far below its early peak.
Like other young layer-1s, Aptos has had to absorb steady unlocks while competing for developers.
What moves the Aptos price?
The value of APT reflects supply and demand, with ecosystem growth and its token release schedule both playing a large part. The main drivers:
Why the value climbs
- Growth in apps, users and activity on the network.
- Enterprise partnerships and institutional interest.
- Lighter unlock pressure as more of the supply is already circulating.
- A strong crypto market and risk-on sentiment.
Why the value drops
- Large scheduled token unlocks adding fresh supply.
- Competition from Ethereum, Solana and other layer-1s.
- Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
- A buy the rumour, sell the news reaction.
These are not the only factors, but they cover most of the moves. For broader context, follow our latest altcoin news and our Ethereum news.
