What is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is one of the largest Ethereum layer-2 networks, built by Offchain Labs to make Ethereum cheaper and faster. Like Optimism, it uses optimistic rollups to process transactions off-chain and settle them on Ethereum, and it is fully compatible with Ethereum’s tools, so developers can move apps across easily. Its token, ARB, is a governance token for the Arbitrum DAO.
Arbitrum has expanded beyond a single chain with Arbitrum One and Nova, the Orbit framework for launching custom chains, and Stylus, which lets developers write apps in languages such as Rust and C.

Arbitrum’s price story
- March 2023: ARB launches through one of the largest airdrops ever, trading around 1.30 dollars.
- early 2024: a layer-2 rally lifts ARB to its all-time high around 2.40 dollars.
- 2024 to 2025: a long decline, with steady token unlocks adding supply, even as Arbitrum stays among the top layer-2s by activity.
- 2026: ARB trades far below its peak.
Despite strong usage, a large unlock schedule has weighed on ARB’s price.
What moves the Arbitrum price?
The value of ARB reflects supply and demand, with ecosystem growth and its token release schedule both playing a large part. The main drivers:
Why the value climbs
- Growth in DeFi and apps on Arbitrum.
- New chains via Orbit and features such as Stylus.
- Lighter unlock pressure as more of the supply is already circulating.
- A strong crypto market and risk-on sentiment.
Why the value drops
- Large scheduled token unlocks adding fresh supply.
- Competition from Optimism, Base and zero-knowledge rollups.
- Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
- A buy the rumour, sell the news reaction.
These are not the only factors, but they cover most of the moves. For more, follow our latest Ethereum news and our altcoin news.
