What is Chainlink?
Chainlink is not a typical coin, it is infrastructure. Founded in 2017 by Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis, it runs a decentralised network of oracles that feed real-world data, such as price feeds, into smart contracts. That solves a core problem in crypto: blockchains cannot reach outside data on their own. Its token, LINK, pays the operators who supply that data and can be staked to help secure the network.
Because so much of decentralised finance relies on accurate price feeds, Chainlink has become a kind of backbone for the wider ecosystem, often described as a picks-and-shovels play on crypto rather than a bet on one chain.
Following the live Chainlink price
On this page you will find the live Chainlink price in both US dollars and euros, with the context you need to read the market. The chart shows the last 7 days by default, and you can switch the view to 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or a full year. Tap a button and it redraws straight away.
That makes it simple to weigh recent action against the longer trend before drawing conclusions.
Market data at a glance
Together with the live rate, the page collects:
- The day’s high and low.
- Market capitalisation in dollars (B for billion, M for million).
- Combined trading volume across the major exchanges.
- The amount of LINK in circulation, out of a one billion hard cap.
- The all-time high, when it was reached and how far below it the price sits now.
- Where you can buy LINK.
- Links to the official website, whitepaper and social channels.
Convert LINK and see the real cost
The calculator instantly converts any amount of LINK into dollars or euros, and back again. Beside it sits an exchange fee calculator, so you can see what a trade actually costs once fees are included and roughly how much LINK you would receive, rather than just the quoted figure.
Historical Chainlink data
Under historical data you can revisit past prices on any date, shown in dollars as the market standard, with the matching trading volume and market cap.
The oracle network’s price story
- 2017: an ICO sells LINK for under 0.10 dollars.
- 2017 to mid-2019: a quiet, flat stretch while the network is built out.
- 2020: the DeFi summer drives the first big run as demand for reliable oracles jumps.
- May 2021: LINK reaches an all-time high near 52 dollars.
- 2022 onward: a long retreat well below that peak, even as integrations keep growing and staking arrives.
LINK is a clear example of a recurring theme in crypto: real adoption and token price do not always move in the same direction.
What moves the Chainlink price?
The value of LINK reflects supply and demand, but it leans heavily on how much the network’s oracle services are actually used. The main drivers:
Why the value climbs
- Rising demand for oracle services across more blockchains.
- New integrations, partnerships or products such as cross-chain tools.
- Growth in staking, taking supply out of circulation.
- A strong DeFi market and risk-on sentiment.
Why the value drops
- A slowdown in DeFi activity and on-chain demand.
- Token unlocks adding fresh supply.
- Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
- A buy the rumour, sell the news reaction.
