What is Monero?

Monero is the best-known privacy coin. Unlike most blockchains, where every transaction is public, Monero hides the sender, receiver and amount by default using ring signatures, stealth addresses and confidential transactions. The result is true fungibility: because no coin carries a traceable history, every XMR is interchangeable with any other.

Launched in 2014, Monero is community-driven, uses an algorithm friendly to everyday CPU mining, and has a small, perpetual tail emission that keeps inflation very low.

Following the live Monero price

On this page you will find the live Monero price in both US dollars and euros, with the context you need to read the market. The chart opens on the last 7 days by default, and you can switch to 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or a full year. Pick a period with the buttons and the chart updates on the spot.

It is a quick way to set short-term swings against the longer trend before you decide anything.

Market data at a glance

Beside the live rate, the page brings together:

  • The intraday high and low.
  • Market capitalisation in dollars (B for billion, M for million).
  • Combined trading volume across the major exchanges.
  • The amount of XMR in circulation.
  • The all-time high, the date it was set and how far below it the price sits now.
  • Where you can buy XMR.
  • Links to the official website, whitepaper and social channels.

Convert XMR and see the real cost

The calculator turns any amount of XMR into dollars or euros instantly, and it works in reverse too. Alongside it sits an exchange fee calculator, so you can see what a trade really costs after fees and roughly how much XMR you would end up with, not just the headline rate.

Historical Monero data

Under historical data you can look back at past prices on any date, shown in dollars as the market standard, with the matching trading volume and market cap.

Privacy under pressure

Monero’s price often moves to its own rhythm:

  • 2017 to 2018: an early bull run carries XMR to a peak around 500 dollars.
  • 2022 to 2023: a broad bear market pulls it lower.
  • 2024: Binance and Kraken remove XMR in several regions, citing regulatory pressure.
  • 2025: a wave of further delistings hits exchanges across Europe and beyond, yet network and developer activity keep growing and the price recovers strongly.

The paradox is striking: the more regulated platforms push XMR away, the more its supporters point to its resilience and to lasting demand for genuine privacy.

What moves the Monero price?

Because so much XMR is held off exchanges and its supply grows only slowly, even modest demand can move the price sharply. The main drivers:

Why the value climbs

  • Rising demand for financial privacy.
  • Network upgrades that strengthen privacy or security.
  • A strong crypto market and risk-on sentiment.
  • Tight supply, with low inflation and coins held off exchanges.

Why the value drops

  • A major exchange delisting that thins liquidity.
  • Tighter regulation or outright bans on privacy coins.
  • Market-wide downturns or a global crisis.
  • A buy the rumour, sell the news reaction.

These are not the only factors, but they cover most of the moves. For the stories behind each shift, follow our latest Monero news and our regulation news.
