Aave price drops sharply after exploit, a new beginning?
Aave, one of the largest players in the decentralised finance world, stands at a critical juncture. The price of the AAVE token is falling dangerously close to its all-time low, raising questions: is this the end of a crypto pioneer, or the beginning of a heroic comeback?
Aave is available at OKX and Bybit.
From billions in deposits to crisis
After its launch, Aave grew explosively to become the preferred destination for crypto lending and borrowing. The protocol attracted billions of dollars from users around the world. To date, Aave has processed over $3.46 trillion in deposits and more than $1 trillion in loans.
Nevertheless, an exploit of the rsETH stablecoin threw the protocol into turmoil. Unlike many other protocols that shut down completely after a hack, Aave opted for recovery. The team froze the damage, halted the AAVE buyback programmes, and formed DeFi United. This initiative mobilised a recovery grant of more than $300 million to restore the backing of rsETH as much as possible.
AAVE token under pressure but not beaten
AAVE has only 16 million tokens in total circulation, underscoring the token’s scarcity. This scarcity makes AAVE essential for the entire Aave ecosystem. The price naturally felt the impact of the rsETH crisis. At the time of writing, AAVE is trading at $74,17. with a market capitalisation of $1.14 billion.
The contrast with the past is stark. In May 2021, AAVE reached an all-time high of approximately $661. The current drop of 88.8% is painful, but also provides context. Notably, AAVE climbed back to $357 at the end of 2025. This suggests potential for a recovery to triple-digit figures and beyond.
Mirage or real rally?
The big question now is: will AAVE continue to fall, or does it have the strength to rebound? The protocol has already shown resilience by addressing the crisis directly and transparently. The community remains behind the project, and the fundamentals of the DeFi ecosystem remain intact.
