Bitcoin has gained more than 23% in three days, with the price closing around $78.300 yesterday, a daily gain of more than 7%. That rapid rise immediately triggered profit-taking: some 53,000 Bitcoin flowed to exchanges, 17,800 of it to Binance alone. That is the largest inflow wave to Binance since February 2026. Strikingly, all those coins came from short-term investors who had bought their Bitcoin less than a day earlier.

Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.

In short:

  • Bitcoin rises more than 23% in three days, with a market value increase of $275 billion
  • 17,800 Bitcoin flows to Binance, the highest level since February 2026
  • The inflow comes entirely from speculative short-term investors, not long-term holders

Short-term investors take profits after rapid price rise

The recent Bitcoin rally is naturally attracting profit-takers. Of the 53,000 Bitcoin sent to exchanges, 17,800 Bitcoin went to Binance, the platform with the deepest liquidity. What makes the analysis by on-chain analyst Darkfost striking is the origin of those coins: they came exclusively from investors who had bought their Bitcoin less than a day earlier.

Long-term holders, meaning investors who have held their Bitcoin for more than six months, did not send a single coin to Binance. According to Darkfost, these are therefore purely speculative, non-structural movements that give no signal about the broader market direction.

Comparison with February 2026 and implications for volatility

The February 2026 inflow, with which the current figures are compared, was characterised at the time by a genuine capitulation phase among that same group of short-term investors. The fact that the current inflow wave is comparably large illustrates how quickly speculative capital moves during a sharp price rise.

Darkfost states that this kind of sudden, short-lived movement fuels the volatility that currently characterises the crypto market. The Bitcoin price is currently around $77.200, up 0.3% over the past 24 hours. Whether the profit-taking continues or subsides will partly depend on whether Bitcoin manages to break through the $80.000 mark.
