Cosmos Labs warns EVM chains after security incident

Cosmos Labs reports an active security incident in the Cosmos EVM module that has affected users. The company advises all Cosmos EVM chains that have contacted it to ask validators to halt their networks. Details about the vulnerability, affected chains and any losses have not yet been disclosed.

Validators asked to halt networks

Cosmos Labs said via X that its security and engineering team is actively responding to the incident. The company has advised the Cosmos EVM chains it is in contact with to request their validators to stop the chains until the problem is resolved.

MANTRA and KiiChain previously affected

The incident is not an isolated one. According to WuBlockchain, the security issue has already struck multiple chains within the Cosmos ecosystem.

MANTRA already halted its mainnet for around 30 hours as a result of recent Cosmos EVM problems. At KiiChain, an attacker managed to exploit a vulnerability in the Cosmos EVM module eighteen times, moving approximately 148.3 million KII. This is reminiscent of earlier cases in which protocols were drained via an exploit, such as the hack of Term Labs via a governance exploit.

How much damage the current incident has caused in total and which chains have been affected exactly remains unclear. Cosmos Labs has indicated it will only share more information after the incident has concluded.
