Ethereum Foundation disbands Protocol Support team

The Ethereum Foundation is dissolving its Protocol Support team. The team played a central role in coordinating Ethereum’s protocol development and was involved in numerous essential processes within the network. The dissolution is part of a broader restructuring at the foundation.

What did the Protocol Support team do?

The Ethereum Foundation’s Protocol Support team coordinated the entire development process around the Ethereum protocol. Specifically, the team organised core developer meetings, tracked network upgrades and provided support for EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals).

Additionally, the team was responsible for the Ethereum Protocol Fellowship programme and provided education, infrastructure and community-related efforts around protocol development. In short, this was a team that did a lot of behind-the-scenes work to keep Ethereum’s technical progress structured.

Restructuring at the Ethereum Foundation

The dissolution of the Protocol Support team is not an isolated event. According to a report from WuBlockchain, the move stems from a broader organisational restructuring at the Ethereum Foundation, which also involves other teams and staffing changes.
