Memecoin market value plummets 81.9% from peak of $135 billion
The memecoin market is in freefall. Where the combined market capitalisation reached a record high of $135.06 billion in November 2024, the figure now stands at just $24.48 billion on 15 June 2026. That represents a drop of no less than 81.9% from the all-time high, amounting to some $110 billion in evaporated capital.
From Record High to Bottom
In November 2024, sentiment in the memecoin sector was at a peak. The total market capitalisation shot up to $135 billion, driven by a broad bull run and huge interest from retail investors. Since then, it has been downhill. Although there were several recovery periods throughout 2025, none has been strong enough to reverse the trend.
The chart from CryptoRank clearly shows how steep the decline is. After the peak in November 2024, the market value falls almost continuously, with the exception of a small recovery in the middle of 2025. The market now stands at around $24.48 billion, a level well below the peaks of even early 2024.
2026 Brings No Recovery
In 2026 itself, there is little reason for optimism. From 1 January to 15 June, the memecoin market lost another 31.3% of its value. The sector has been under pressure all year, with no signs of a structural recovery.
The contrast with the euphoria of late 2024 is enormous. Memecoins as a category seemed to be carving out a lasting place in the crypto market, but the numbers tell a different story. The question is whether the sector will ever regain the momentum of the previous cycle, or whether investors are permanently shifting their interest to other parts of the crypto market.
